VENEERS
Veneers are ultra-thin ceramics bonded onto the surface of teeth to enhance their appearance by improving color, texture, shape, and size. This is the best treatment if dental aesthetics is the top priority as they are made of ceramics - the best material in terms of durability and ability to mimic nature. “Porcelain veneers” are a specific type of veneer where a skilled ceramist sculpts multiple layers of porcelain which is then baked in an oven. This results in very thin and translucent restorations that can be bright yet possess optical properties similar to natural teeth. This is becoming a lost art as it is very labour-intensive, but we are able to provide this service here if it is indicated. DENTAL CROWNS
Traditional crowns are done to entirely cover and protect a tooth. The downside is that the tooth must be modified and more tooth structure is lost. At Smile Aesthetics Yorkville, our goal is to provide durable and esthetic restorations with as little “shaving” or “prepping” or “cutting” of natural tooth structure as possible. With advances in adhesive dentistry and stronger ceramics, we often do not have to fully crown a tooth, but rather choose alternatives like onlays, vonlays, three-quarter crowns, half-crowns, etc. These are restorations that only cover the damaged areas or the aesthetic surfaces, thus reducing the need to remove any healthy tooth structure.
DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants have revolutionized the way we replace missing teeth. They are used to support prosthetics that either replace a single tooth, multiple teeth in a row, or an entire set of teeth. A whole set of teeth can be supported by as little as 4 dental implants, but strategic planning is required. Just like structural columns supporting a building, dental implants should be placed after prosthetic planning by the restorative specialist or dentist. For implant treatment, we utilize the latest digital scanning technology and virtual smile design planning prior to your implant surgery. After surgery, we can quickly 3D print the pre-planned temporary prosthesis in-office so patients can receive their teeth the same day. The final ceramic teeth are then crafted by a master ceramist based on the planning done before any surgery, and after incorporating any feedback from the patient while using the temporary prototypes.
